Native Grill & Wings was always more than a sports bar franchise
We pride ourselves on being a place where people can bring the whole family. Sports fans are always welcome, of course, but we’re more of a place to slam down 12 wings with your kids than 12 beers with your buddies.
We’ve been successful for a very long time, with our first location opening in 1979. We were one of the first restaurants to serve Buffalo-style wings outside of Buffalo, New York.
We are the absolute original wing brand, well before Buffalo Wild Wings or Hooters or anybody else.
Our history
In 1978, Judy and Floyd Anderson relocated their family from Buffalo to Phoenix, Arizona, with dreams of bringing a New York delicacy to the Southwest: New York-style pizza. Native Grill & Wings — then known as Native New Yorker — was born. As it turned out, Arizona was happy with its existing pizza options. After years of dismal sales, long hours and a roller-coaster of emotions, Judy had an epiphany: Buffalo-style chicken wings.
Native soon became Arizona's favorite local chicken wing joint. Today, Native is a family-friendly, polished sports grill with over 20 restaurants in Arizona, Texas and Illinois. Franchising started in 1993. In 2014, Native New Yorker rebranded to Native Grill & Wings, or just “Native” as the regulars call it.
Where we're headed
In 2018, Native Grill & Wings received an influx of investment capital from Cybeck Capital Partners, a private equity group with 40 years of experience growing brands. Cybeck provides management and operation guidance as well as financial resources to help franchisees open new restaurants, and to boost franchisee support.
Joe O' Hara, CFO and Partner of Cybeck Capital Partners, which owns a majority interest in Native Grill, works alongside the founding family and leadership team. “They have created a brand that is loved and that has deep roots in Arizona and surrounding areas. We’re helping them expand those roots and ultimately earn national recognition for the great brand they have already built.”
